Abstract

Geo-environment has a substantial part in the survival of human beings and groundwater is a major source of freshwater in various parts of the world. All things on the surface of Earth like soil, rocks, water, microorganisms, gases, etc. are collectively comprised under geo-environment. Every element of geo-environment possess distinct chemical, biological and physical properties. On the other hand, groundwater is a major source of human life. It is very important to understand the effects of environmental factors on groundwater, in order to preserve it. The present research examines various studies published in the years (2000-2023)to analyze the impact of geo- environmental properties on groundwater properties by conducting systematic literature review. Overall, 37 papers were reviewed in detail for this study. The present review used PRISMA guidelines for reviewing previous studies. The present SLR examines the factors affecting geo-environmental properties or geotechnical properties and the effects caused by these properties. Additionally, this study analyses the influencing factors of groundwater properties and its impacts on environmental elements. The study also provides an explanation regarding the relationship between geo-environment and groundwater. The findings of the study can contribute to a comprehensive understanding about geo-environment and groundwater. The current review can also serve as a foundation for future studies to conduct experimental analyses which would help in confirming the results of present review and for a more precise understanding. Also, the study results could aid in developing implementable techniques or practices in the future, for the sustainable protection and preservation of natural resources.
